I guess since this box was not destined to be a Media Center, I never even thought of MCE as an alternative. Or I just had a brainquake -- again!

I use the z555 mostly for TV, hardly ever for surfing, so it's in a separate compartment in my mind ... and besides that, I had so much trouble with it initially that I sort of lost interest in it, and I tend to underutilize it - although it was eventually replaced by HP. The second one seems OK so far.

Sure. All versions of XP, including XP Home, support both processors.

When I bought this dual processor CPU, my research on Microsoft's site indicated that XP Home would not support dual processors.

If I read it wrong, I wasted some money, I guess, but if I read it right, the OP should be aware of this :-)

There was misinformation on MS site early in the XP development and it still floats around today. Home supports up to 2 processors. In fact, if you search microsoft.com right now, it says that it does not all over the place, but you'll see all those documents are old.

To flesh it out a bit, Microsoft OS's are licensed by the number of CPU sockets, not by the number of cores. XP Home is licensed for only *one* socket, but the CPU that fits into that socket may have more than one core and/or HT support. Having said that, I have yet to try an EE CPU to verify that dual core+HT are both supported at the same time in XP Home.

Actually, I kind of like having Pro, so I don't really mind the few extra $$ - I was joking on that part, anyway, but I *was* serious about the OP knowing about it.

It wouldn't be the first time there was misinformation abounding. It amuses me that I got it from MS, though.
