Re: Newbie Question - ATI AIW 2006 bug in MCE 2005

Probably the best place for this type of information is
www.TheGreenButton.com - they have good forums and people there.

_Who_ advertises this card as MCE compatible? ATI? Or some 3rd-party
manufacturer that doesn't know what he's talking about?

Not disagreeing with you but the card is advertised as MCE2005 compatible
and the lower channels work. Any explination or place I can look for
further documentation? Thank you for your time!

Basically, the All In Wonder series are not compatible with Media Center.
To be fully compatible, the tuner card needs an MPEG encoder in hardware,
to turn that analog video signal into an MPEG stream. The AIWs don't have
this in hardware, but instead use a software driver to emulate the
hardware. This works for some people, but not others, and when it does
work it requires a substantial percentage of your CPU cycles. You'd be a
lot better off with a separate tuner and display card...

Hi all, I just started experementing with media center. I put together
an system with new Intel MB, dual core CPU a couple Gig RAM, and the ATI
AIW 2006. I have latest windows updates and drivers for all my devices.
I use Charter for my cable tv.

The problem I'm having is with higher channels. chanels below ~channel
75 work great in media center. Most channels above 75 start to get
fuzzy, when I get into the 100's they're all fuzz (audio and video).

The weird thing is that if I use the TV tuner that's included with the
ATI card, those same channels work fine. It's only when I'm in Media
Center that they have problems viewing.

Any thoughts on what it could be?
