Agreed, but if the Guide can sort by Category and recognize what is/isn't "sports" then MCE should be able to use it.

It'd be interested to know if that works too.

I suspect they started to plan to add that feature, but probably cut it due to lack of data availability (i.e. EPG data wasn't good enough expose that functionality in the UI)

There is a setting for this, but I don't know if MCE actually honors it. Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\VideoSettings

In the right pane, look for a value called RecordingSportsHardPostPadding. If it exists, double click it, select Decimal and enter the value you want. Mine is defaulted to 1800 (708 in Hex). If the value is in Seconds, that would indicate a 30 minute built-in "post padding".

I came across this problem while recording recent US Open Tenis finals. I
chose, from EPG, to record mens finals. But as with many sports, the start
times are fixed but end times are not, the recording stopped 'before' the
final few sets and award ceremony. Thus my question.

For dynamic length programs like sports, how does one make sure that
'complete' program gets recorded?
