Re: Migrating to a new hard disk.

1) Log on to the new installation, with another Administrator level user account.
2) Locate the NTUSER.DAT file for your user account on the new installation (Documents and Settings\<username>\NTUSER.DAT) and rename it to NTUSER_OLD.DAT
3) Locate the NTUSER.DAT file for your user account on the old hard disk and copy it to the user account on the new installation.

Note: You'll probably need to adjust Explorers Folder Options to view hidden files and folders and to show protected operating system files. You may also need to adjust the file permissions so that you can rename and copy the respective NTUSER.DAT files.

This should put all of your "personal" preferences back as they were. And if it creates problems, you can always delete the NTUSER.DAT file you copied and rename the original back to NTUSER.DAT.

I had a hardisk failure on my original installation of media center 2005.
After trying all of the repair and recovery options to avoid the blue screen
crash at bootup
I installed a new copy of of media center to recover my files off the old
drive. (which worked)
At one time I saw a KB article on how to migrate my program settings to a
new install on the same machine.
If anyone can give me some pointers and or directions on how to migrate my
programs and settings over to the new install it would me most helpful.
Thanks
