Re: Decoder error when trying to watch live TV/DVD through MCE

This error will sometimes show if the video card is not up to the task or
has incorrect drivers for MCE (and possible the tuner card).

What video card to you have?

Are you running MCE drivers (if available)?

Are you running the Hauppauge MCE drivers or the standard ones?

Let's add another level to the problem. I have just un-installed the
cyberlink software and installed the trial version of Nvidia's decoder. I
also un-installed the Hauppauge decoder so that Windows XP Video Decoder
Checkup shows only one decoder installed - Nvidia's. I can watch DVDs
through Media Player and I can see the TV feed through Movie Maker, but I
still get the decoder error when trying to watch video or TV in MCE.

I know there has been a lot of messages about this already, but I have
not
been able to resolve my issue. I get the error that the decoder has
malfunctioned or is not installed.

I have the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 150 MCE tuner card and have Cyberlink
Power
DVD 7.0 Deluxe installed. I can watch DVDs just fine through Cyberlink's
interface and if I load Windows Movie Maker I can see TV channels from
the
tuner in the preview panel. The Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility
reports the following:

1. Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD7) CLVSD.ax 6.0.2.2806 Set
as
preferred

2. Cyberlink Video/ SP Decoder clvsd.ax
X

3. InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder for Hauppauge
IviVideo_Hauppauge.ax
4.5.28.238 X

4. Cyberlink SAC Video Decoder(PDVD7 HomeNetwork) CLVSD.ax
6.0.0.2122

The 2nd and 3rd decoders are not MP10 Compatible or MCE Compatible while
the
1st and 4th are compatible with both. I have uninstalled and reinstalled
the
Power DVD software several times and have gone through the registery and
cleaned out all references to Cyberlink and PowerDVD between installs.

I payed for CyberLink's telephone support to resolve the issue only to
have
them insist it is MS issue and that I had to contact Microsoft.

Can anyone help me wth this?

Mike
