Re: Remote desktop control on Media Center

Yes, MCE 2005 supports Remote Desktop, just as Pro does. You cannot, however use RDP to watch Live or Recorded TV, or any other full motion video as RDP does not "stream" the content. It renders the remote desktop differently.

The only functional differences between MCE 2005 and XP Pro are

1) MCE 2005 will only join a domain during the initial install (so not doable with an OEM, but this is hackable).
2) Does not cache network logon credentials (but this goes away with the hack for domain joining)

Today I was told by an associate at Best Buy that the XP Media Center 2005
operating system was XP Pro with service pack 2 with the Media Center add-on
(whatever that means). I was very skeptical and asked him a few times if he
was sure---to which he responded affirmatively. He said XP Media Center had
the same capabilities as XP Pro, including the ability to remotely control
one computer, say your work computer, from another computer, say your home
computer.

Would someone please tell me if this is correct, as I do not want to spend
the extra money on an XP Pro machine for the remote desktop control if XP
Media Center 2005 wil do the same thing.

Thanks so much for your response.
