How did the old machine crash? Could be a dead drive

Right click My Computer, select Manage, Disk Management. Ensure that the
drive is assigned a drive letter, and is seen as "healthy". If no drive
letter is assigned, do so.

I am trying to transfer files and programs from my old hard drive, which I
have put in a USB 2.0 case, to my new computer. I cannot get windows to
find
the hard drive even though my computer recognizes the driver, and
recognizes
that hardware is plugged in. My old tower crashed so I have to pull the
files
directly from the hard drive.
