if you have system recover disks then they are designed to revert the system
back to like it was originally yes. As long as there is nothing wrong with
any of the hardware (cd/dvd drives in this case) then they should work fine
after the reset. I would make sure you have all restore disks before
proceding with the reset, and of course back up all critical data before
doing the reset (always back up even if there is no current problem, then
your always ready in case of an emergency). Good luck with the reset.

my computer is acting goofy because tried to get help from gateway techs &
windows' information sheets, but only makes things worse and neither cd
nor
dvd player will work correctly. Is there a way to re-set everything back
to
the way i got it from the fixit place, like 'default'? If i use my disks
to
recover everything, will the upper and lower filters return to cd & dvd?
THANK YOU for trying 2 help!! .bj
