Re: More than Two Tuners in Vista MCE

At this point, there is some public information about OCUR and some that hasn't been released yet. Not to shy away from answers, but some things cannot be discussed publicly at this time. What the final form factor will be will be up to the manufacturer and the OEM's that distribute them.

When you guys are talking about the OCUR card is that like the card
that I have for my Tv. Like a cable box in card format. If so How does
that connect to the computer? Do you get a pci card that will accept
that card or a usb housing and will you get the cards from the ccable
company or open market.

Thanks for the info

Robert

Doug,
I am sorry, but I don't know what that means. Vista only support two HDTV
"tuners," so does an OCUR device that is receiving an analog signal count?
How about an OCUR device that is deceiving a digital, but non-HDTV signal?

How about a nice table that shows all of this. (Since you answer questions
and the Vista Outlook Express newgroups MS people don't, I keep asking you.)

Yes, it can be used without a cable card, but its still treated as a digital tuner.

Are you saying that an OCUR device cannot be used as an analog tuner?

"Doug Knox MS-MVP" wrote:

You're correct, however for the purposes of Media Center, each OCUR device is treated as a digital tuner.

I know that OCUR stands for "Open Cable Uni-directional Receiver" and they
speak of it as a "receiver" and not a "tuner." I know that ATI has a product

Nowhere that I've seen. The only significant change between MCE 2005 and Vista, as far as tuners go are:

OCUR/Cable Card support in Vista
No need to install an analog tuner in order to install an HDTV tuner.

I believe that is true in the beta, but I thought they announced a higher
number will be available before release.

No, out of the box, you will still have support for up to two ATSC and up to
two HDTV tuners.

Does anyone know if Vista will support more than two tuners or will we
need to hack them in like we Currently do on MCE 2005.

Thanks for any Info
