Re: Delay changing channels

dfeifer, thanks for the reply but i'm not sure we are talking about the same
thing. Did you respond to my post by mistake?

Jaime, your post is on point. I don't have a set top box, I hava an analog
cable, connected DIRECTLY to the tv tuner in my pc. The fact that you don't
get any type of delay really gives me some hope now! My cable signal is
split between my main TV (different room) and my TV Tuner. If i take the
cable and connect it directly to the tv tuner (ie. no splitte), it makes no
difference. What could the problem be???

Oh, what kind of TV Tuner do you have? Mine is an Emuzed Angel PCI. Could
it be a problem w/ this tuner?

Out of curiosity, are you using a STB with your setup or analog cable
directly plugged in to the tuner card?

We've had this question come up before on the group and I'm not totally
convinced that it is the buffer causing the delay -- I have plain old analog
cable plugged right into the PC and I have virtually no delay when I surf.
The channel change at pretty much the same speed as when I am just watching
the cable directly. I think some of the delay is MCE getting the signal from
the remote, translating, and resending to the STB.

JW, thanks. That explains the delay, but is there anyway to speed this
process up? I mean if one is changing channels constantly, isn't there
some
sort of "cached" info like that of IE for example. Not trying to be
difficult, but I want to make this as seamless as possible. If it can't
be
done, this is something that definitly needs to be taken into
consideration
for future versions of MCE.....

The delay is caused by MCE creating a new file in order to support a
TimeShift buffer for the new channel and not actually starting to show
the
new file until it can sucessfully issue a write command to the newly
created
file.

Is there any way to avoid the delay when changing channels w/ MCE?
There
is
a 1 second delay going from one channel to another which gets to be
very
annoying when channel surfing. Does anyone have a workaround for this
if
this is by design?
