I believe you are right that I'm getting only a partial install of IIS. I
posted this on the IIS Microsoft forum, and Bernard Cheah is taking a look
at my IIS install log file. There are several fail notices in the log file,
although I did not receive any error messages during the install. I'll post
the results on this forum as it might help others.

It certainly sounds like IIS isn't installing properly, but unless its
throwing an error during the installation, I'd be hard pressed to say why.
You might want to try the IIS specific newsgroups

When I try the IP address and localhost in Start, Run I get "The page
cannot
be displayed." in my browser. When I try
"%SystemRoot%\system32\inetsrv\iis.msc" in Start, Run I get an Internet
Information Services dialog box. In the left panel I see Internet
Information Services with "Presario (Local computer)" underneath it and
nothing else. In the right panel I see Presario (Local computer) in the
Computer column , Yes in the Local column and IIS V5.0 in the Version
column.

In Administrative Tools I do see a shortcut for IIS. When I click on it I
see the same dialog box that I described above.

In Computer Management, Services and Applications I see an entry for
Internet Information Services, but it has nothing underneath it and if I
right click on it I do not see properties.

It sounds like IIS is not installing fully, and maybe this is what's
preventing me from installing SQL Server Developer Edition Reporting
Services. Do you think this could be the case?

I can't see this as a Media Center problem, according to the
hardware/software requirements. Can you click Start, Run and enter
http://127.0.0.1 or http://localhost and open IE to the default page for
IIS? Additionally, you should have an IIS entry in Programs,
Administrative Tools, Internet Information Services. You can also open it
by Start, Run and entering

%SystemRoot%\system32\inetsrv\iis.msc

Some advanced features of things like SQL Server may be disabled, by
default, if you're not actually running on a "server" platform. While XP
will act as a web server its not a "server environment".

I have a new Compaq Presario which came with Windows XP Media edition and
IIS 5.1. I've installed the IIS component but I'm not sure I have a
good
install. Internet Information Services does appear as a directory under
Services and Applications in Computer Management, but it has no sub
directories under it. The IIS Admin service is running.

I'm trying to install SQL Server 2005, including the Reporting Services
module which relies upon IIS being up and running on the PC. The SQL
install program is dimming out the Reporting Services choice during the
install, which makes me think it can't find IIS.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling IIS several times but get the
same
results. Any thoughts on this will be appreciated.
