Re: video corruption on main screen

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I had the same problem on my Gateway until I loaded a motherboard update.
Now my picture is great!

Hey All,

I'm experiencing some strange video behavior on my fresh install of MCE
2005. The best way to describe it is that there are small blotches of
red and pink rectangles across the screen. I've put a screenshot up
here in case that helps:

I've seen that exact same thing when playing zoomed content or HD content
with a substandard video card. Your 6600GT *should* be able to handle
anything that MCE will throw at it -including HD. I can see why you're
stumped!

Have you checked the DVI cable? Perhaps it is faulty. Have you messed
with anything in the bios that would slow down the data transfer? Do you
have a sufficient power supply and cooling to ensure that the video card
isn't slowing down? Have you tried a different monitor or television. Is
the TV too close to speakers or other magnetic devices? Are there any
florescent lamps or other "noisy" appliances nearby?

My system is a pretty plain Dell dimension 8400 with an nVidia 6600GT
PCI Express video card. I have the latest drivers and have applied all
the rollup patches to date, but can't seem to shake this issue. I'm
connected to my ViewSonic LCD display via DVI and have run the display
wizard inside of Media Center under the "laptop" config and the "LCD"
config. Both don't work.

Do you mean that they fail to correct the problem? Or do you mean that
the wizards themselves crash?

Under normal XP things are working great. Videos, games, everything
seems normal except when I launch Media Center from the Start Menu.

Have you tried any demanding 3D video games? Does the video card perform
well with them? Have you tried using Windows Media Player to display the
same content and if so, were there problems?

-Pete
