Re: MCE gets blurry when doing schoolwork on other monitor

Thanks for the information. I did not know that. Anyway, the automatic
configuration was making my tv screen blurry, so like you said I went in and
forced it to send a 800 * 600 instead. I am learning. Thanks again.

Yours was not an easy problem and I learned more about dualview from it.
What most users do not realize is that S-Video does not send the actual
resolution of your desktop when it is set to 1024x768 it normally sends an
image of the desktop using 480i resolution. It can also send an 800x600
image which is what you forced to happen in your final configuration setup.

I do not know, according to my control panel on my desktop, the nvidia
software configured both the tv and the flattop to 1024 * 768. I am only
starting my schooling for a bachelors in IT and am pretty good w/
computers,
but I have a lot more to learn. My flatscreen was never blurry, it was my
tv.
Now when I go to my control panel on my start menu it says that my
flatscreen
is configured at 1024 * 768 and my tv is configured at 800 * 600. Beats
me.
Like I said I have only had one IT course so far I have spent 2 years
almost
completing my business degree. In October I will be learning all this
stuff
for the next two years. Everything I know or figure out, I usually figure
out
by asking my brother who is microsoft certified and by trial and error. I
checked out this website, because my brother is currently in Germany on
business and was not available to help me and I was determined to figure
it
out...

No I believe that what actually hapened when NVIDIA did not found your
normal Primary display is downsscaled your desktop resolution and output
it
simage at 480i over S-video instead of at 800x600 which was not at that
time
the defined resolution for your S-Video connection since 1024x768 can not
be
used on S-video since the s-Video specification does not permit the
bandwidth that it would require.

Yes, you are correct, and mytv resolution is now set at800 * 600. When
my
Nvidia software automatically configured the resolution it put the tv
at
the
same resolution as my desktop, that is why nvidia told me you need to
create
a custom setting with the wizard. Hope this helps.

is

Sorry, on step 4, it should be select custom setting and click next
I
accidently wrote #5 twice.

Sorry the answer in my last post did not go through. When you
configure
the
nvidia software you cannot just pick dual view and allow the
software
to
configure itself, you must create a custom setting with the flat
screen
having a resolution of 1024 * 768 and the tv having a resolution of
800 *
600. And it works, I can use different applications on the
flatscreen
while
using media center on the tv and everything is crystal clear. The
steps
are
as follows. The nvidia wizard sets up the primary monitor, the dual
view
and
the resolution for each monitor etc.

1. right click on the nvidia icon in the toolbar and select nview
properties
2. click on display wizard on the nview properties page
3. click next on step one of the wizard
4. select primary display and click next
5. select primary display and click next
6. select span/clone/dual mode and click next
7. select screen resolutions for each monitor and click next
8. on preview screen click next
9. click finish to save setting

Then after you save setting, save the profile so if you decide to
switch
to
another mode like single or clone you can easily switch
configurations
without having to use the wizard. Hope this helps.

Thank you, actually for some reason the configurations were
not
configured
right. I contacted gateway and nvidia and to instructions on
how
to
reconfigure my video card and everything is working great
now.
Thanks so
much
for all your help.

The maximum resolution you'll get over sVideo is 720x480 (or
if

a PAL TV, I think its 720x576). Having the TV set to a
higher
resolution
in
the drivers won't help, as that's all sVideo is capable of
supporting.
And
at 720x480, your desktop will certainly be blurry...

Te question I've got is about when you say the TV image is
fine
when
you're
not using the flat screen, but goes blurry when you
are...that's
just
weird...how does the computer know the difference? If you're
not
using
the
flat screen, do you just power it off? If powering it off
makes
the TV
get
blurrier, then it sounds like a graphics card issue as that
shouldn't
affect
the sVideo output...

Yes, i am using a VGA interface connection for my flat
screen
and an
S-Video
connection for my tv monitor. Thank you for the info, the
video
on the
tv
is
still watchable just a little blurrier. Besides that the
dual
mode
works
fine, no problems. I will check out my nvidia manual for
information
about
this issue, and I guess I live with the the slight
performance
problem
(blurryness) as I use my computer for college (an IT
degree
in 2
more
years)
and MCE. Thanks for all your help.

I am
not
sure what your TV may be using probably S-Video or DVI or
Component.
The NVIDIA release notes and or user guide for its
driver
recommend
agains
using dualmode with MCE because of performance problems.
I

What graphics card do you have and what resolution and

I guess I did not explain the problem right, the
problem
is
when I
am
running
video on my tv through MCE and go to use my
flatscreen
to
do
schoolwork,
the
video on my tv gets blurry. I wanted to know if I
could
.
