Re: MCE gets blurry when doing schoolwork on other monitor

No, that is why I was having problems w/ clarity. My nvidia software was
automatically configuring both my flat screen and my tv at 1024 * 768. I used
the wizard and saved the profile and created a custom setting to configure
both my flatscreen and my tv correctly, hope this helps.

Isn't your LCD getting forced to 800x600 when MCE loads?.

Sorry the answer in my last post did not go through. When you configure
the
nvidia software you cannot just pick dual view and allow the software to
configure itself, you must create a custom setting with the flat screen
having a resolution of 1024 * 768 and the tv having a resolution of 800 *
600. And it works, I can use different applications on the flatscreen
while
using media center on the tv and everything is crystal clear. The steps
are
as follows. The nvidia wizard sets up the primary monitor, the dual view
and
the resolution for each monitor etc.
1. right click on the nvidia icon in the toolbar and select nview
properties
2. click on display wizard on the nview properties page
3. click next on step one of the wizard
4. select primary display and click next
5. select primary display and click next
6. select span/clone/dual mode and click next
7. select screen resolutions for each monitor and click next
8. on preview screen click next
9. click finish to save setting
Then after you save setting, save the profile so if you decide to switch
to
another mode like single or clone you can easily switch configurations
without having to use the wizard. Hope this helps.

Thank you, actually for some reason the configurations were not
configured
right. I contacted gateway and nvidia and to instructions on how to
reconfigure my video card and everything is working great now. Thanks
so
much
for all your help.

The maximum resolution you'll get over sVideo is 720x480 (or if
you're
using
a PAL TV, I think its 720x576). Having the TV set to a higher
resolution
in
the drivers won't help, as that's all sVideo is capable of
supporting.
And
at 720x480, your desktop will certainly be blurry...
Te question I've got is about when you say the TV image is fine when
you're
not using the flat screen, but goes blurry when you are...that's
just
weird...how does the computer know the difference? If you're not
using
the
flat screen, do you just power it off? If powering it off makes the
TV
get
blurrier, then it sounds like a graphics card issue as that
shouldn't
affect
the sVideo output...

Yes, i am using a VGA interface connection for my flat screen and
an
S-Video
connection for my tv monitor. Thank you for the info, the video on
the
tv
is
still watchable just a little blurrier. Besides that the dual mode
works
fine, no problems. I will check out my nvidia manual for
information
about
this issue, and I guess I live with the the slight performance
problem
(blurryness) as I use my computer for college (an IT degree in 2
more
years)
and MCE. Thanks for all your help.

I assume that your monitor is using a VGA interface connection.
I am
not
sure what your TV may be using probably S-Video or DVI or
Component.
The NVIDIA release notes and or user guide for its driver
recommend
agains
using dualmode with MCE because of performance problems. I
forget the
exact
verbage.

I have a ge force 6200 w/ turbo cache. my resolution for both
monitors
is
1024 * 768. I am using Dualview (so I can use each screen for
seperate
programs) and my tv is my default monitor and my flatscreen is
my
plug
and
play monitor. I am not quite sure what you mean by what
interface am
I
using,
if I did not already answer this, tell me where to see the info
and
I
will
post it. Thanks.

What graphics card do you have and what resolution and
interface
are
you
using to your 2 displays? Are you using clone or extended
desktop
mode?

I guess I did not explain the problem right, the problem is
when I
am
running
video on my tv through MCE and go to use my flatscreen to do
schoolwork,
the
video on my tv gets blurry. I wanted to know if I could
configure
something
differently so that the video on my tv stays clear while I
am
doing
my
homework on my flatscreen. I know it has something to do
with
using
my
flatscreen because the video is clear on my tv when my
flatscreen
is
not
in
use. Thanks.

If I understand you correctly you are saying the PC
applications
are
blurry
when trying to run them on your TV although Video is fine
on
your
TV.
This
is probably becasue CRT tVs are designd for video only and
no
for
use
as
PC
moniotrs. This is why CRT PC moniotrs have historically
cost
twice
as
much
as CRT Tvs of the same screen size. Also if you are using
S-Video
as
the
interface to your TV recognize that you are sending a 480i
image
of
what
is
on your moniotrs desktop and not the actual desktop
resolution
this
also
causes application text to appear blurry.

I have a question I have my tv hooked up as my primary
monitor
and
I
do
my
schoolwork on my flatscreen. My question is when I am not
using
my
flatscreen, the picture on my tv monitor is clear, when I
start
doing
schoolwork on my other monitor, the picture on the tv
monitor
gets a
little
fuzzier. Is there any way I can reconfigure my tv monitor
via
the
Nvidia
Control Panel or the window control panel to have a
clearer
picture
when
using my other monitor for schoolwork, thanks.
