RE: Session terminates when using xbox 360 as extender

In my case it doesn't seem to have anything to do with any recently installed
update. My problems started over a month ago.

Probably not a bug. Just a bizzare coincidence. Were we three downloading and
installing the same Update while watching the Media Center via an X-Box 360.

My Session Terminated at 8:57:08 PM Australian Time.
At that precise time Service Control Manager sent stop controls to the Media
Center Receiver Service, the Media Center Scheduler Service, and the Media
Center Extender Service. These services entered the stopped state. And at
8:57:11 PM, NtSevicePack reported that Windows XP Media Center Edition 200
Hotfix KB 919803 was installed.

Looking through the log, it seems that the Service Control Manager sends
stop controls left, right and center as these Updates are being installed. It
also issues start controls, but not in this case.

Turn off the X-Box, reboot the computer, and turn the X-Box 360 back on.

Hello Jonas,

You are second person in the last to hours to report this type of problem.
See jmhs2004's messsage, "Unauthorised window was detected while ... "

It sounded suspicious to me, so I fired up the X-Box 360 on Live TV.
Ten/Fifteen minutes later. "Session Terminated. Another user or application
on the Windows Media Center-based PC has disconnected this device." Two
Buttons at the bottom of the screen: "Reconnect" or "Exit". "Reconnect" leads
to that dreaded screen "Can't ccontact PC.... make sure your PC is on and
connected to the network"

Quick check of the X-Box's IP address... 192.168.0.263... that seems OK.

Back to the Computer's Event Viewer...under Application log.... big red
cross... Source: Media Center Remote Manager, Event ID 10, The shell exited
unexpectedly.

I think we've found a bug.

An hour before I had "custom" downloaded and installed all the sixty-eight
"critical" updates from Windows Updates. This event occured as I was
downloading the all the Optional Updates except dotNEt 2.

Around three hours ago, I set up the X-Box 360, and was watching Live TV for
around an hour before coming back here.

The only application, I have been running is IE. The only Symantec product I
have left is Norton AntiVirus, but Automatic LiveUpdate has been turned off
turned off, so can't really blame Symantec for this one.

My set up is X-Box 360 hooked up by cable to my Toshiba Qosmio G20 Laptop,
and Laptop plugged into phone line via 56k dial-up modem. Accessing X-Box
Live via Internet Connection Sharing in my Laptop. (Not really accessing
anything very much because the bandwidth is pretty tight... just my account
stuff) Pretty simple.

So, what's going on?

Hi,

I have problems using my Xbox 360 as a media center extender. After a couple
of minutes of use the session typically terminates with a "Session
terminated" message. It doesn't seem to be connected with a certain task, it
happens when I view images, stream TV, etc.

When it happens I see the following two errors in the event log:

"Faulting application mcmgr.exe version 6.1.2715.2783 faulting module
unknown, version 0.0.0.0 fault adress 0x0000000c"

Unauthorized window was detect while running the Media Center Experience
"MCRMgr". with the file name 'C:\\Winodws\system32\dwwin.exe

I have the following setup:

XBox 360 connected using a wired connection to a Netgear WPN824 router.
Windows Media Center PC connected to the router using a wireless connection,
using a 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 108 Mbps 11g USB adapter.
My PC is close to the router so there are no problems with the wireless
connection being out of range or something like that.

My PC has an AMD X2 4200+ processor, Asus A8N32-SLI motherboard, a GeForce
7900 GT graphics card, and a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR1300 TV-card.
I am running Windows Media Center 2005 Edition with all the patches installed.

Anyone that has any idea of what might be wrong?

Best regards,
