Re: Wireless Network Connectivity

does the Yahoo webmail site begin with https or http? if https it
should be secure. check for the padlock...

most public networks won't let you use WEP

Many thanks for the links. I have access to more than one computer
network (incl. cafes) for email but am nervous about using my laptop
with wireless connectivity for email until I understand the security
risks better.

But if I use a public wirelsss network connection at say an airport or
train station, and then use say Yahoo to do emails, when I type the
Yahoo password in (in plain text) and then click enter can someone
nearby intercept that transmission? I don't think that the login page
has a padlock symbol on it.

Also the laptop is a Toshiba - what is the Toshiba WEP - it is
mentioned in the manual as a good thing to use but not how to invoke it
- and how good is it?

Thank you very much for your help and interest.

CJB.

the best place for this question would have been in the

that begins with Bolster Security When Traveling

as far as email goes, you don't specify how you access email -

How safe are public wireless connectivity services? I was using one
last night for the first time and was browsing the web but not for
email because I wasn't sure if the password would be encrypted. I also
read in the manual that using a public connection meant that other
users could access my PC and steal info. CJB.
