Re: Problem Recording to DVD

OK, I'll give that a try. I know it checked the disc before it
started the process and then started the converstion task when it
crapped out. I will have to installl burning software and give that a
try....

I think it checks your disk and your drive at the start, before it emabarks

So I think I'd try a different disk. And then, if you get the same problem,
I'd try burning to a disk outside MCE - it could be your dvd burner/driver is
dead.

OK, it looks like there are still problems....

As stated below after the reinstallation of the Sonic burning
components, things start off much better. A message comes up stating
that the DVD may take several hours to burn, and gives me the option
of burning in the background by pressing OK. I did not select this
option, and a progress bar indicates that the task is 1% complete.
The progress bar stays on 1% and after a few minutes, an error message
pops up that states, that an error has occured while burning DVD. The
drive lights never went on during this process, so it wasn't an error
burning the DVD, but in the processing of the show before the actual
burning.

Is there any log to show what the actual error was? Any other ideas
what I should try next?

Success!!! (I think....)

I did the removal and reinstall of Sonic CD/DVD burning components,
and this time when I selected Create DVD, I got the option of a data
or video DVD, and it is now in the process of doing the conversion.
The popup box indicated it could take several hours to complete, so it
might be a while before I can give it a thumbs up!

Thanks, I'll give the removing and reinstalling Sonic Burn Engine a
try. I haven't tried burning outside of MCE since I never installed
any other burning software on this machine, assuming it could all be
done within MCE. I can click on a recorded TV file, and click create
DVD option, but after that I get the error message that indicates MCE
doesn't think there is a recordable drive installed.

I will try the reinstall of Sonic Burn Engine first, and failing that
install something to try burning outside MCE. If none of that works,
then in the world of Arnold Schwarzzenegger: "I'll be back!"....

Can you burn a DVD outside MCE, using a different app (eg Nero)? If not, it
sounds like you have a problem with your DVD burner/drivers?

If you just click on a recorded TV file, do you get the 'create DVD' option?
What happens if you click on that? Do you get the Data option? Video option?
your error message?

Even aside from Sonic encoders, MCE comes with the Sonicburnengine, which
gives the Data DVD option to everyone. If you are not getting that, I guess
you could try reinstalling the sonicburnengine?

I found this -
http://blogs.msdn.com/peterrosser/archive/2005/11/21/495335.aspx
At the bottom it says:-
'Try removing and reinstalling the Sonic Burn Engine.

To do this, goto Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove windows components, then
unselect "Sonic DVD and CD Burning", ok out, then repeat but this time
select it.'

That sounds fairly simple and direct. I might try that. I would think you
may need to reboot between the tick and untick? I guess to reinstall it, you
may need to put your XP installation disk in?

I know the sonic engine was updated in rollup 2. If you aren't up to date,
I'd probably give that a go....

Good luck

I am trying for the first time to record a TV show to DVD. When I go
to the More Programs section, and click on "Record CD/DVD" a pop-up
box says, "Make sure you have a CD/DVD recorder installed" then give
a choice of "Retry" or "Cancel"

I have the sonic encoders installed and of course I have a DVD
Recorder! So what should I look for or do to try and resolve this
issue.
