Re: Fast User switching option disables at startup

Got it!

u were right Doug it was a 3rd party softwar that disables fast user
switching, its called Timbuktu and its a remote desktop software that i
installed early on...

i disabled the startup preference and everything seems to work fine however
as soon as i launch the application it disables fast user switching not sure
why but at least i know what was casuing the problem and how to fix it...

anyway thanks again for your help and all your time, i really apreciate it...

It could be a 3rd party logon DLL or it could be some application that's loading at Startup, as well. To check for a 3rd party logon DLL, click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Look in the right pane for GinaDLL. If it exists, note the contents of this value. You may even want to right click on the WinLogon subkey and select Export to backup this entire key. Again, if the GinaDLL value exists, right click it and select Delete. By default, the value doesn't exist. Alternatively you can double click it and enter MSGINA.DLL. No value is the same as making it read MSGINA.DLL.

If its a 3rd party program, you'll have to use MSCONFIG to selectively disable programs that load at Startup until you find the cause.

The only thing I've found so far, other than 3rd party logon DLL's, that would change this behavior is:

I don't know if this situation would permanently disable it, or would allow you to enable it then turn it back off.

I tried manually changeing the value to 1 however as soon as i logoff and
back on again it returns to 0...

not sure whats going on here either my change is not being saved or
something is overriding it during logon...

Simply run Regedit as soon as you log on and verify them.

Hi Doug,

I checked Terminal Services and its already set to STARTED and MANUAL i went
ahead and changed it to automatic but i'm still having the same problem in
fact i just noticed that the problem exists if i just log off my user i dont
necesarrily have to shut the pc down as soon as i log back in the fast user
switching option is again disabled... it however does not disables itself if
i switch user only when i log off...

like i mentioned before it seems that for some reason that particular
setting isnt being saved algon with everything else...

any other ideas?

by the way thanks for your help...

Additionally, when this happens, click Start, Run and enter SERVICES.MSC Look in the right pane for Terminal Services. This service should be set to Started and Manual. If not, double click it and change the startup type and start the service. You can also set it to Automatic startup, if desired. It won't hurt anything.

LogonType is also set to 0x00000001(1)

is this ok?
