Re: Convert XP Media Center Edition to XP Professional?

If you need to join a domain, then yes, it can be hacked. You will lose Fast User Switching functionality, as well as the ability to use a Media Center Extender in a concurrent session.

Scroll down and you'll find the instructions for hacking this. It will still be MCE but will behave like Pro for domain purposes.

Doug,
The question regarding going from MCE to XP Pro relates to a school
requirement. A school has required that all laptops run XP Pro. The
machine was purchased with MCE installed. MCE is not approved. I have
read that one can "convert" a MCE to a XP Pro.
Thanks,

Typically, there is no need to. Media Center is XP Pro. The only difference is related to the ability to join a domain and caching of network logon credentials.
