You chose a vendor that does not provide XP disks, just a disk to restore
the machine to factory fresh.
They cannot be downloaded.
You have three choices:
1) Return the machine and purchase from a vendor that does provide an XP
disk, such as Dell
2) Just use Add/Remove to uninstall what you don't want and live with it.
3) Purchase a brand-new license for MCE for roughly $120

i just bought a toshiba notebook (tonght, in fact) with an installed
version of windows media center 2005, where the product key is listed
on the bottom of the notebook. what i want to do is format the drive
so it is clean and then reinstall windows media center 2005 and the
bare minimum of software/hardware necessary for use (hopefully you
understand that what i mean by this is getting rid of/disabling all the
little windows messenger, extra McAfee antivirus i don't want because i
like and already have norton, and all the extra dodads that are taking
up corners on my precious 80 gig harddrive and just plain irritating
because they are there and unnecessary, for me at least).
my problem is, i don't have windows installation disks to reinstall or
initiate the format. i thought they'd be included in the purchase but
was not, and i'm given the product key on the bottom of my notebook.
i've tried googling for answers but unable to find the download files @
microsoft.com
the only software disks i was given were a two dvd set entitled
Toshiba:
Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD
Satellite A100/A105 Series
but they don't seem to have windows installation files on them.
can someone tell me if what i want to do is going to seriously screw
with my new laptop, or direct me to a page where i can download the
files i need to reinstall windows media center 2005 after i format my
drive (where i'll burn them to a disk before hand, of course). i
already have a desktop with internet access, so i can download
something there and it's not imperative that i get this all right in
one shot, but i do hate to have to finesse and finigle (if i can make
that a word) for 8 hours just to set my comp to my bare minimum
necessities.
