Re: Mediacenter Slow IR to Set-Box

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I was kind of wondering the same thing. When I try to watch live tv
either via keyboard or IR remote control there is a few seconds delay
before the TV picture comes up. Is there a reason for this? Is there
anyway to shorten the time it takes for live tv image to appear?

No, the only buttons that are programmable are the TV power and the volume.
The remote needs to control the channel changes via MCE so it doesn't get
confused about what its trying to do. The MCE PC will then control the STB.

Doug, thanks for the response.

And some more questions on this, as you probably could expect :-)

For what I can remember from the manuals, I can set the On/Off buttons and
the volume buttons to control the TV..... My channel buttons change the
channels on MCE, not on the Set Top Box. Can they be programmed to do so?
And what about additional buttons, like the ones that give me the summary
of
the program and the start/end time? Those are important functions to me
since AFAIK the TV Guide doesn't function for Israeli TV.....

The box is probably responding normally. There is about a 3 second delay
before you see the changes on the MCE display, this is due to buffering of
the Live TV signal. Ideally, you would use the Media Center Remote and an
IR emitter to control the set top box, not the STB remote.

Configuration: Media Center with Sattellite TV Set-Box.
Computer has Pentium 4 2.8GHz processor, 1GB memory
and 250GB disk

Problem: Before the installation of the Media Center (when Set-Box was
connected directly to the TV), the Set-Box IR Remote control was very
fast,
actually immediate.

At the moment I changed the Video and Audio cables from the TV to the
Media
Center computer, and connected the computer to the TV, suddenly the IR
Remote control of the Set-Box (not the Media Center control) became very
slow. If I want to change the channel in the setbox, or see information
about a program, it takes between 1-3 seconds from the moment I press the
button and until the set-box responds.

The thing is strange to me since the only cables that exist for
connection
are the Audio and Video cables, nothing that regards the remote.

Does anybody know where this problem may be coming from and how to solve
it?

Thanks,

Helio
