Disconnect the monitor and leave the TV hooked up, reboot. Make sure your on
the right input on the set.
If you clone the display there are icons on both monitors, if the overscan
is bad enough they may not visible. If this is the case you still should be
able to right click the desktop and get to display properties.

I rebooted and it had absolutelu no effect on the secondayr "monitor". It
still has the desktop picture and nothing else. Settings on bot monitors
are
the same. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Often when you change the settings to clone a monitor you will have to
reboot the system to activate the second monitor. If you clone the
display
the settings and display will be the same (cloned) for both monitors. The
setting you use on the primary monitor must work for both or the second
monitor will come on. I have not seen stock drivers that allow cloning
with
independent setting so keep that in mind when you setup the primary
display.

Thanks. I agree that is what my problem must be. Unfortunately, I
dragged a
couple program icons and even a program opening window over to the
right
of
my primary monitor to the secondary display and nothing changed. It
just
put
these things onto the sceondary monitor (i.e., SONY TV) but they are
not
functional there AND nothing else happened. In other words, it did not
restore the cloned monitor status to the TV. If I UNCLICK "Extend
desktop
to
#2 monitor (i.e., TV)" on the desktop settings tab window, the
secondary
monitor just goes blank and the #2 monitor says it is inactive in the
"Settings" window. However, if I look in the device manager and the
secondary monitor properties, it says everything is functioning
properly.
So, how do I clone the secondary monitor and turn it on without making
it
just an extended monitor? I made it work once, now I have screwed it
up
by
making the seconday monitor this extended monitor of the primary.
Please
explain more what you mean by "drop anything from primary monitor over
to
the
other display" What I did, was of no use. Thanks so much for your
help!!!

You are now running your secondary monitor in extended desktop mode
instead
of in clone mode. You can just drag and drop anyghing from you
primary
monitor over to the other other display which is probably on the right
or
left of your primary display edge.

I am trying to connect my HP Media Center PC to a second monitor,
which
is
really my SONY widescreen projection TV. It worked great when I
preliminarily connected it the other day. Today when I connected
the
DVI
to
HDMI connections (i.e., PC output to TV input) via the same cable
as
before
to install it more permanently, the sound was fine but the only
picture
I
get
is the backgroud Desktop picture. There are no short cut icons on
the
desktop and no slies, programs or whatever show up on the TV. I
have
changed
every primary and secondary characteristics setting on the screen I
can
think
of to change and nothing works. I even tried making the TV the
primary
monitor and still nothing but the background picture of Windows or
whatever I
set it to be shows up. It even goes to screen saver after the set
time
interval. I can even change the desktop picture but no mouse arrow,
icons
or
anything else show up. I have also tried an S-video connection with
no
better result. What have I messed up since it worked perfectly the
other
day? Please help. Thanks.
