Re: Unable to Apply Update Rollup 2

I have also had this problem for weeks. I have tried all the suggesetd steps
but KB900325 still won't install, therefore no upgrade to Media Player. I am
directed by the install program in the fail message to go to the PC
manufacturer for support. Is that a practical thing to do or are they just
trying to get me to go away for awhile?

Are there any new pathways to try?

BTW, my registry entry in the Media Center Ident key was "3.1". I changed it
to "3.0" just to try it, but the same thing happened.

Thanks for the help.

Hello All,

I tried the one method by uninstalling Security Update for Windows XP
(KB912812). This caused an error on reboot that I ignored. As expected
Update Rollup 2 installed fine. However, when I tried to return to Windows
Update to reinstall the security update I found that IE no longer worked nor
did Outlook. Even things like the Windows help stuff did not work. I
started to panic but remembered system restore and it successfully returned
my system to working order. I did go to my kid's computer and download the
security update in case I got the nerve to try again. If I try again, will
manually reinstalling the security update from the file return everything to
working order?

I do have the Beta 2 of IE7 running. Could this be the problem?

The WebLog describing the "piece-by-piece" installation method says it
should be a last resort so I am hesitant to go that route.

Any other advice? I would hate to think that I will no longer be able to
update Windows Media Player.

Thanks very much,
Stuart

Let us know how it goes.

Hopefully something does screw up, and you find out exactly what it is, so
that we can figure out the cause and hopefully a fix.

Hello,

When I tried to install the beta of Media Player 11 I received an error
message that required the installation of Update Rollup 2. I am
running
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (5.1.2700.2180). I noticed the KB
that
suggested the removal of a current hotfix and I did that.
Unfortunately,
the
attempted update failed twice. Does anyone have any suggestions to
enable
the update and allow the installation of Media Player 11?

Thanks for your help,
Stuart Montgomery
