Hi Doug,
That is great because you can use any TV card that is certified 2005 MCE and
the remote will work with a problem
Since this remote is an MS product, so there should be no problem in how it
interfaces with MCE 2005. I imagine the ones that come with a bundled package
- MCE 2005 tv tuner/drivers/remote - also contain the same remote, but with
their name on it instead of Microsoft.

Most of the retailer's don't have a clue. In fact, most MCE machines I see on the shelf don't even have tuners. If your need isn't critical, shop around. The remote/receiver combo can run from $35 to $80 US. www.newegg.com has them, and usually has one of the lowest prices around..

Thanks for that Doug. Its back to the shop I go. My main aim here is to be
able to write to DVD and play on the TV. I cant do this with the settings
for the DVD burning as they are and the only way to change seems to be
through using the Remote to access particular areas within MCE. You'd think
the retailer would mention the importance of the remote ;)
Thanks again.

You're correct. While some of the IR codes on various remotes may trigger something in the MCE interface, you need a genuine MCE remote, or a universal remote that can learn the MCE remote codes. Of course, to teach it, you need an MCE remote..........

Greetings.
I have been reading your post with great interest as I have issues of my own
with MCE that tie in with your thread. I purchased it without as MCE remote
control, instead getting a generic remote with the TwinHan Card. I now seem
to have limited control over MCE and cant get access to some of the more
detailed program functions such as changing the format of the DVD burning
sessions.
Am I right in thinking that you dont have full functionality without the MCE
remote?
Cheers

Hi Doug,
I guess it's a good feature just in case. Thank you!

Yes, as the remote controls the Media Center interface. You still need it. If you did have a set top box, there are jacks on the back of the infrared receiver that you can plug emitters (blasters) into and then attach to the set top box, so it will be controlled by the MCE computer without having to use the cable company's remote control.

Hi Doug,
That's great so, I just checked the two links you sent. The - 150 with MCE
drivers, remote and IR Receiver/Blaster - has a remote that works with MCE
2005.
However the this IR remote gives you the option of controlling your cable
top box. So if I connect the cable directly to the tv tuner, do I still have
to use the IR receiver to make MCE function?

No, the 150-MCE does not come with a remote, unless you buy the Media Center bundle.

Hi Doug,
Thank you for the reply. OK that is exactly what I mean. As you stated the
Hauppuage 150-PVR-MCE - comes with the drivers that work with Windows MCE,
but the remote does not. Maybe I'm missing something, but that appears to be
an inconsistency, since the remote is not compatible. So how does it work and
what am I missing out on by using the remote that comes with the 150-PVR-MCE?
You said: "Additionally, if you're looking at a bundle that includes the
Media Center remote control, it will have the Media Center drivers." - so
what are saying is pick one that has the Media Center remote control and by
default it will have the Media Center drivers. So how can I tell if the Media
Center remote control is a MCE control - what makes it different as in the
case of the 150-PVR-MCE which alludes that since it's an MCE TV tuner, one
would think it has an MCE remote control?
Thanks,
Roger

The only real difference is the drivers that the card ships with. The Hauppauge 150-PVR is the exact same card as the 150-PVR-MCE. The driver disk that ships with it is different, and the MCE version does not come with the Hauppauge remote control (which is not an MCE 2005 remote). Additionally, if you're looking at a bundle that includes the Media Center remote control, it will have the Media Center drivers.

I am looking into getting a tuner for my new Dell with MCE 2005. In looking
at tuners from different manufacturers, I notice that some come with a remote
and some don't. Both types state they are Media Center compatible.
Of the ones that come with a remote some also state they have their own TV
guide software, yet MCE has its own also. I get the impression that their
remote and software are a unit, which would render MCE's TV guide and remote
functions basically non-functional. Am I understanding this correctly? Help
me understand.
If so, what type of tuner/remote combination is necessary or I should be
watchintg out for that will allow MCE 2005 to function with the TV tuner, its
TV guide and remote controling the MCE functions?
Or would any remote work on MCE 2005 with a tuner when both are of the same
manufacturer. If someone can elaborate on these points I would greatly
appreciate it.
Thanks,
Roger
