Re: DVI/HDMI displays no picture

This is a great suggestion as I have the same problem with the NVIDIA chips
and drivers. I will have to try this with Vista also.

Really disappointing; after running my new 42inch plasma a couple of days
on
S-video fed from from MCE and nVidia Geforce 5200 without problems, I
bought
a HDMI cable (10 m) and a DVI/HDMI adapter and attached to the DVI output
on
the graphics card. I have now spent nearly 3 hours trying to get a picture
on
the plasma, but it is impossible. I cannot understand what I have done
wrong.
I think I have tried all kind of setup now...

The nVidia driver detects the TV as a "LG TV" so the cable should work
alright. Using "720p" in the "TV wizard" gives me 1280x768 and 60Hz which
should be find according to TV manual. (Native resolution is 1024x768 but
it
does not work anyway.) I can not even make work using the "Single display"
option pointing to the TV. It still says "No signal".

I have also run the TV monitor settings in MCE to tell I have a flat tv
using HDMI. But, on that screen is says the setting is for the "primary
display" and my primary display according to nVidia is the ordinary small
PC
monitor I use for "housekeeping". (The MCE box and the TV are in separate
rooms).

And I even missed the final of the football world cup...!!!

Is there anyone that has any clue about this I would be very very
grateful.

Open display properties/advanced/adaptor then list all modes. If the list of
display modes do not list the modes you need and or some are listed
incorrectly you have a problem with the monitors EDID.
Hook up a monitor that can display at least 1280X720, in setup make the
monitor the primary display and set to clone the display, your monitor
should work now,you may need to reboot before the monitor becomes active.
NVIDIA cards will not work with the DVI information (EDID) received from
some monitors and there is little you can do as side from leaving another
monitor or a vga dummy hooked up to clone for some resolutions to work, I
have a set that works with ATI nothing extra required, but will not work
with any NVIDIA card that I've tried with recent drivers unless I clone a
monitor to get any resolution over 800X600.

Also 1024X768 the native resolution should give you the best results because
it would map the pixels 1to1 and give you a very nice desktop to work with,
as the fonts should be more visible.
