Hi,
I just bought a new Media Center PC, but am kinda disapointed by the fact
that I can not watch a show (Watch NOT record) while recording another.
I know you need 2 TV tuners if you want to record 2 shows... but, You can
not record a show and channel surf or change channels while Media Center
is
recording a show. Or watch a sports game and channel surf during
commercials.
You need a second tuner or a single dual tuner card, like it or not it's a
fact not just for MCE. A tuner locks one channel at a time. You can however
watch a recording while you record another program. Not what you want but
the best you can do with one tuner, get a dual tuner and your set.
Or if 2 good shows are on at once, I can't even record one and watch the
other.
Am I missing something here, or is this just another reason why Microsoft
Media Center sucks, and I should return it ASAP and buy a Mac instead
since
they are far superior when it comes to Digital Media and Entertainment.
(and
quality)
Buy a Mac and you'll have the same problem if you don't get the hardware you
need to fulfill your requirements, the operating system won't change that. I
don't know who sh** in you your corn flakes but your going off on Microsoft
when it's a hardware problem.
Or better yet, just buy ancard for my already good
(Non-Media Center) PC?
So what's your point you'll buy a dual tuner video card (more money) to
prove that you need a dual tuner.
I can't even hook it into my home network/Domain (Never thought Microsoft
would release an XP OS that can't join an Active Directory Domain... A-Hem
A
Microsoft Server 2003 Domain Controller... a Microsoft (XP) OS...
HELLO!!!!!!!!!!! What Idiot thought of that one????) I bet Apple is STILL
laughing over that one. Their programs and systems DO work together.
Man, I gotta dump this MS crap ASAP (I am so embarssed to even mention I
use
MS anymore). If this is where they are going, then expect Linux and Mac to
make a HUGE gain in market share (Oh, right!!!! they already are!).
With a little work you can join a domain. Hint use google put in the time
to do a little research.
Also, I can't see everyone buying brand new high end dual core systems
just
to run a super buggy Vista either (and you already know hackers are gonna
tear it to shreads when it finally does come out.), The NEW Outlook
interface
is gonna cost companies a FORTUNE to retrain all those ppl (not to mention
help desk costs also in conjunction with the Vista retraining costs) for
the
new look and feel of the same ol' junk... Give your head a shake guys...
Can
you say Thunderbird??? Its FREE and has already done years ago what MS is
claiming they are inovating and leading edge in Vista.
Well even a broken watch is right twice a day, but to be fair shouldn't you
wait to evaluate the final release.
What STILL no RSS reader (isn't that like parsely on your plate at a
restaurant with everyone else?) Oh Right... we are still waiting for
Vista...
maybe by 2015 it will finally release 5 years after Vienna does?
Not everyone wants or needs a RSS reader.
Thanks,
Still Steemin'
(Burned by MS AGAIN!)
Oh, and in case you wonder why I didn't post my name... it's not because I
am worried about the replies back (we are all entitled to have an
opinion)...
its just that I am very high up in a company that is a major Microsoft
solutions provider and it is my Job to recommend corporate and enterprise
MS
solutions. So by posting my Real Honest Opinion (and my name) that would
violate my agreement with Microsoft. As they may OWN my opinion at work,
they
sure DO NOT at my home. This is MY opinion only, not my companies. (But, I
do
decide what I suggest to companies as a solution.)
Hi Thanks for the reply... but you kinda missed the point and immediatly
went into MS defence mode... Kinda expected that from this group.

Actually I prefer Bagels over corn flakes... I was quite upset that I bought
a Media Center PC to replace my Home Theater System as the MS claim goes...
But Media Center does not appear to be able to walk and chew gum at the same
time. (Not Literally obviousally)
I wanted to watch one program while recording another. I know you need 2 TV
tuners if you want to record 2 shows at once just like you would need 2 VCRs
if you wanted to record 2 programs at once... But, I did expect to at least
channel surf during comercials since I didn't need to buy a 2nd TV or VCR to
do that. ;-)
I believe an expensive "Total Media Center Solution" should have at least
the most basic capabilities. Do you only ever watch one channel at a time?
re: " With a little work you can join a domain. Hint use google put in the

Well my Googleing led me here (been there done that)
* You cannot join your computer to a domain in Windows XP Media Center
Edition 2005 (Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is designed as the
foundation for a premier home entertainment system.)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887212
So just because someone knows a little MS hack doesn't mean MS programmed it
that way, or intended it to have that capability with out re-writing Windows.
If I was gonna do that I would go Linux instead ;-)
"Well even a broken watch is right twice a day, but to be fair shouldn't you

Very True, But I don't like the direction Windows is going with Vista, and
see no reason to wait when we all know the outcome... Can anyone say Windows
ME???
re: "Not everyone wants or needs a RSS reader."
Well, Not everyone does not want it too... I believe more ppl want it then
don't or at least anyone who is not stuck in the past or so set in their OWN
ways to get with the technology bandwagon.
Does this mean Nobody should get it because you just happen to not want it?
You must be a MS programmer.
Since RSS is the Wave of the future (just Google it)... everyone else has
it as a standard everyday feature already (You don't have to use it if you
don't want either)... Thunderbird is very impressive, even Firefox Live book
marks... Even Gmail, Yahoo, Google Personal Homepage etc... has RSS News
Readers already built in to them... and almost every Website has a RSS feed
of some kind... Including Microsoft... Do you not know what a cell phone is?
Do you not read news? Are you living in the middle ages? If you like
spending HOURS reading ads to find one sentence of relavent info... or would
you rather subscribe to hundreds of feeds and check them all out in the same
time it would take for the first Webpage to load due to the Overly Excessive
Advertisements nowadays that seem to now take precident over actual content
etc...
How many ads are on the average Website... it is a sickening amount. My
HOSTS file (on my laptop) is HUGE trying to block all that crap. RSS is the
answer and solution to this for me and many others.
With RSS I don't have to look at their stupid Ads (or even visit the site),
and FINALLY it is the ONLY defence we currently have over these excessive
Ads. Oh... And NO VIRUSES like with Email mailing lists... No EMail
Addresses.. NO Spam...
Don't want it anymore??? it takes half a second to get rid of the feed...
try that with a spammer.
I think you (and MS) needs to get with the program unless you like Ads,
Spam, Viruses, Phishing attempts etc... and spending hours waiting for pages
to load. I am on highspeed ADSL and one would think your back on Dial-up with
the amount of time it takes to remotely load all these advertisements/flash
and other crap.
But, I do thank you for the reply nonetheless, but nobody actually answered
my Media Center question... Only attacked my personal opinion... ;-)
Can you watch TV or even change the channel if Media Center is recording a
program? Well doen't appear so... Glad MS doesn't make TVs or you would have
to buy a TV for every channel you wanted to watch. (and extra MS Licenses for
each channel too)
Please do not take my post as an attack again you it is not by anymeans. 8)
Cheers!
