Re: Vista Beta 2 and XBOX 360 setup

I never had it connected to an XP Media Center PC.

Did you try going into the 360 menu to 'erase' the previous setup when it
was connected to XP? Then after this run through setup again. I remember
having to do this when i bought a new router as the 360 was still looking
for the old one. That's what I assumed happened.

I also have this exact same error and would like the solution since some
have
obviously gotten their 360 to connect to the Vista Media Center.

I have the exact same problem. I had it working once, but after having to
do
a reinstall, it no longer works. I have two computers running Vista,
however.
Is that going to make a difference (I am only using one computer to
connect
to the 360).

The exact error message is:
Extender Communication Error
An error occured while communicating with the Extender. Reset your
extender
and try setup again.

Done that countless times. Thought that it was possibly my fire wall,
so I
disabled that and even plugged everything into a Hub with no firewall
support to see that. Only thing I haven't done yet is try a patch cable
from
PC to XBOX, mainly becuase I don't have a 50' cable for that.
The XBOX 360 can get on XBOX live and I can play Live games, so I'm
pretty
sure that it is something on the Vista side. Vista does see the
extender,
but it keeps saying that it isn't setup. It isn't setup becuase I can't
get
past the second step when it configures device. It configures PC no
problem,
but never gets past the Configuring Device.

Seems like I am the only one having this problem, but I'll keep hacking
at
it until I get it working.

What is the exact wording of the error?

Hey all-
After reading a few threads on this topic, I seem to have one that
hasn't
been touched yet.
I have done a clean install of Vista Beta 2 on my Desktop and have
gotten
Media Center up and running no problems.
How ever, when I hook my XBOX 360 up, it tries to connect and just
hangs
on
the screen saying contacting.
The Media Center, after running configure under the Extender gets to
the
point where it tries to setup the XBOX and it says that there is a
communications error with the extender and to reset it.
At first I thought it was the firewall, so I disabled it and tried
again,
still no joy. I then thought it might have been the router, so I
plugged
everything into a hub and still no joy.
I can connect the XBOX to a windows XP computer running Media
Center, no
problems, but the my Vista Computer refuses to talk to the XBOX to
complete
the setup.
I guess I'm trying to figure out if there is a way I can copy the
files
onto my XBOX 360 using a thumb drive or something to get them to
talk.
Windows Vista sees my XBOX 360, I can ping it, I can even get
properties
on
it under Network (Has a funny Ipod icon though) and the XBOX 360 has
no
problems hooking up to XBOX Live.
If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to let me know.
Thanks
Luke
