Re: Problems installing MCE2004 on formatted HD

Now I understand, I once had a problem when I was loading Windows XP
Pro on a Dell. However my install would freeze up and crash the
computer at different times during the install. I ended up running a
diagnostic CD and found out that I had bad memory. Once I replaced the
memory, the OS loaded and booted up just fine. Also, I would reccomend
not doing a quick format. You want to make sure you get rid of all
that old stuff on your drive. A really good diagnostic CD is Hiren's
bootcd. Try doing a Google search for Hiren's bootcd v8.2. I hope
that helps.

Yes that's right. I meant to say used drive. I was using the 2nd drive as a
backup and now I am trying to use it as as my primary drive and install
MCE2004 on it but as described previously it always freezes up on me at the
final stage. Any advice?

Thanks.

I´ve changed my old HD to a 120GB (uesd) drive and have tried several times
to install MCE 2004 using my HP recovery disks. After using all disks
successfully and then going through the usual setup of name, region, license
agreement etc. the computer goes through the usual restart and gets to the
10 minute countdown stage. Once complete it appears to go through 1 final
restart where the Windows logo appears and says ´Please wait´ while loading.
This is where it freezes up and stays that way forever. If I reboot the
system an error message comes up saying ´Windows was not successfully
installed. Please run setup again´.

Any tips on how to get past the frozen stage at the end of the install???

Thanks.

Don't know what you mean by saying "I´ve changed my old HD to a 120GB
(uesd) drive" That verbiage makes no sense to me.

He means he took out the drive that was in the computer and put in
another drive. The other drive is a 120GB drive which has been used
before. Possibly the OP used it himself and possibly he bought it used.
