Re: Migrating MCE Settings to New Install?

Thank you for your reply, Jason. I did try this, but when I started Media
Center on the new computer, it was still going through the setup wizard. This
was the part I was especially trying to avoid, ie setting up the remote and
selecting the channels that are available. Should these settings get copied
too? (I'm not sure what EPG stands for, but the systems are identical.)

Thanks again for your help.

To transfer your settings between computers...

Grab the *.xml files found within the subdirectories of this directory from
the original computer, and throw them on your new computer. Note that the
MCE setups should be the same between the target and destination computer
(in terms of EPG data, tuner capability and other MCE related settings etc)
otherwise, unexpected results may occur.

Thanks again for your answer, Chris, but I can't seem to make the transfer
wizard work for this. The list of "custom files and settings" that I can
add
to the transfer doesn't include anything about Media Center. I see
Outlook,
Sounds and Multimedia, Taskbar option, Windows Media Player and so on, but
nothing about Media Center.

I've searched for answers to this but came up empty:

I am looking to reinstall my Windows MCE 2005 computer, and I would
like
to
keep all my settings intact. Is there a way to backup, transfer, or
otherwise
copy my MCE settings? A tool would be ideal but I'd be satisfied
knowing
which folder/registry settings to transfer.

I assume that this has to be a fairly frequent problem, and I am
surprised
that I wasn't able to find answer.

Thank you for your help.
