Xbox 360 Cannot play MPEG2 Video Files

Hi All...hope you can help me.
I just purchased a Sony DCR-SR100 harddrive camcorder that encodes the video
to MPEG2, audio in DD5.1. I am able to copy over the video and play it in
WMP 10 and Media Center on the PC.
First off, my entire system is hardwired using CAT5e cable.
I also have the Gen 1 linksys extender in my bedroom. I can access and play
the video from this extender, but the sound does not come through,. I am
assuming the sound does not come through because of the DD5.1 encoding
(which, if I am not mistaken, the Linksys cannot do).
Lastely, I have a Xbox 360 in the living room. The Xbox 360 freezes and
locks up when I select to play the mpeg file...any suggestions as to why???
Thanks a million.
