I generally limit myself to closing all obviously open programs (running in
the Taskbar) and maybe a few that run in the system tray.

I used to do Control-Alt-Delete to bring up the task manager, and close all
programs except Explorer and Systray whenever I installed a new program
(Windows ME).
Now, Ctrl-Alt-Del still brings up the Windows Task Manager, but ALL those
processes are rather intimidating, especially the all System stuff. Also,
Systray isn't there. Can I still close all those processes ? Are there
some
that should NOT be closed ? Or, what is the best way in MCE to close
programs prior to a software install.
