To add to my reply..
See here for a walkthrough of the Windows XP MCE2005 setup process created
by Charlie Owen (a Microsoft Employee on the ehome team)

After setting up the system, you'll need to get Update Rollup 2 and all the
subsequent updates. These are all available at Windows Update.
Hope this helps

Unforunately, your install is pretty much going to be unusable. You'll
need to reinstall.
When you do reinstall, when the install program prompts you for the
Windows XP service pack 2 disc, that *is* Disc 1. You might have to point
it to the i386 directory. Failure to do this step will lead to what you
currently see.
Hope that helps

I just built my new computer and installed XP media center on it. when i
first went to install drivers it said that kernel32.dll could not be
located
and did not install them. I restarted my system and tried again and it
installed the graphics driver without a problem. I restarted and it would
not
boot at all. I tried reinstalling windows and it worked until it said
insert
service pack 2 CD i treid all the cd's that came with my windows software
and
none of the are the service pack 2 CD. I said cancel in the browse window
and
my system restarted. at first it still didn't boot up but I changed some
BIOS
settings and now it starts to boot up but it says that it is restarting
setup
then goes to a black screen with the mouse and nothing else.
