Re: Random freezing

Did you ever resolve this issue? I've been having similar problems
with my m1170n. Random, temporary freezes that last about 10 seconds.
It was a refurb, and I was really busy during the return period, so I
can't take it back. :( I've tried disabling everything I could,
including sound, CD-ROM, TV board, LAN, 1394, PS/2 Mouse/Keyboard, and
Hyperthreading. I tried a different hard drive, and different SATA
cables. I have updated the video card and sound drivers. I even ran
memtest86 on the RAM.

I have the following options:
--Try to do a better job of cooling the system. The system looked
clean, and the fans were running OK, according to the BIOS.
--Swap the video card. I don't have any other PCI-E cards to try, but
I can probably try one out.
--Swap the power supply
--Fresh reinstall of a "naked" Windows XP installation, without Media
Center or the OEM-supplied utilities. Maybe something is up with the
bundled software.
--Try different RAM, even though it seemed to pass memtest86.

Any pointers?

I went on HP's website about my problem and they say the first cause of
hangings could be a high temperature inside the computer and they showed how
to clean it from its dust.

I openned up the side panel and it was somewhat dusty. There's 3 fans in
the coputer. One on the AC power, one on the back and one aimed directly at
the processor. When I removed the fan blades from the motherboard, there was
so much dust it was impossible for the processor to be cooled down. It was
like a wall of dust.

I cleaned it all up and now I'll see if that was the problem.
