This sounds to me like a hardware failure beginning to happen, possibly due to a component which is becoming overly sensitive to heat, a power supply beginning to go bad, bad memory, or ???.
This is a judgment call on my part, and may not be correct.
Another (software related) possibility: do you have any plug-in type additions to Internet Explorer?
