Re: Network Domains & Media Center vs Pro...

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

HP and other brands with pre-installed MCE use System Recovery partitions or
discs that aren't even remotely similar to normal OS installation CDs. More
like Ghosted copies of the installed system, including OS and 3rd party
software and drivers. Unsurprisingly the one HP owner who commented on the
link you gave couldn't get the workaround to work when (presumed) they used
their system recovery disc IPO an MCE OS installation disc.

Do you know if the banana hack can be done using only the files that are
pre-installed with MCE on the harddrive (assuming the i386 folder is
present)?

By design, Media Center 2005 can only join a domain during a clean install.
If you want the features of XP Pro, pay for Pro (MCE actually costs less).

However, there are work arounds:

My boss just bought an HP Media Center and asked me to set her up... Took
awhile to get to the root of my problems, but I've now learned the XP
Media
Center edition does not support joining a network domain. So my question
is... Is my boss now stuck with a PC that does the sexy media center
stuff
but is worthless with respect to our network applications, or can I
upgrade
this PC to XP Pro and still retain all the media center functionality?

Thanks for any assistance!
