Re: Live TV messed up

Hi JW:
Installed the new PVR 150 tuner card and live tv is working fine. Picture
is comparible to the ATI 550 TV Theater Pro card. Your help in fixing the
problem is really appreciated!

Hi JW:
Your assumption was correct. Can't record or watch live tv, but recorded
tv plays fine. Just got home from Circuit City with a new Hauppauge PVR 150
TV Tuner. I have high hopes that installing it will cure the problem! Never
did like the tuner that came with the computer anyway LOL. Had a Hauppauge
WinTV card in my old computer that I was much happier with.....matter of
fact...the new one looks a lot like it. I'm trying an experiment first
though. I removed the old ATI Tuner Card and am uninstalling the drivers for
it. Then will re-install and let Windows find it and re-install the drivers
and see if it might work again. If so, I'll install the new one too and have
two tuners....if I istall it right! The installation cd on the PVR 150 says:
version 2.4. I assume I can update that later if needed? I believe I figured
out how I may have ruined the original card...I unplugged the cable and
plugged it into the tv to see if I was receiving a signal since the computer
couldn't detect it. Then I connected it to the computer while it was in
Standby instead of completely turned off. I don't know if that could hurt the
card or not.....but it sure doesn't work anymore LOL.

The above post assumed that you can play previously recorded TV shows but
can not record and play TV shows now which may have been a bas assumption.
If you can still record and play shows then there is some comflict between
your tuner card and your graphics card such as a shared IRQ being
overworked.

If you can play recoded TV then there is nothing wrong with your decoder
or video card ant the problem is with the actual tuner card(possible
hardware falur) iof you have the latest MCE drivers from the ATI Website
installed and do not just have the regular windows drivers installed.

Hi JW:
I switched the position of display 1 and 2 as you suggested. No change.
MC2005 live TV on primary (monitor)still a static filled garbled mess. I
installed the latest ATI 550 drivers, went thru MC set-up and it says no
tv
signal detected still. What device/program is it that converts the live
tv
signal? I ran the decoder check-up utility and it says I have a
compatible
decoder and no change recommended. EVERYTHING else works fine in media
center......playback of recorded tv, pictures, music. Windows Media
Player
also works fine. Could it be those "Sonic something or others?

Hi All:
I moved my media center 2005 computer to a different room yesterday
and
hooked it up to a crt monitor and an analog tv thru an s-video
connection. I
turned on the tv, turned on the computer and voila, there was my
desktop
displayed on the tv automatically! I watched a Media Center recording
and
some live tv and everything was great! Turned everything off and today I
turned on the computer to check my emails and later turned on the TV.
Yikes!
At first I got the desktop on both displays, but when I turned on the
Media
Center program the tv screen went blank and the monitor as well. I
turned the
tv back off and still had no monitor. Hit control/alt/delete 2x to get
taskmaster and shut down media center application. I got back my
monitor and
was able to watch recorded video fine in WinMedia Player and music works
fine. I re-started the computer and tried turning on Media Center live
tv on
the monitor and after a few minutes the live tv gets scrambled but with
good
audio. Gave up on the live tv and put the puter on standby. Later, a
scheduled Media Center recording took place and it and other recordings
all
play fine. What did I do to my poor computer? Somewhere along the
line, I
did try re-connecting the tv and thru the ATI Catalyst program and think
I
may have switched the monitor and tv because when I dragged something
from
the monitor located left of the tv to the right, I couldn't get it to
the tv.
When I dragged it to the right it moved to the tv display even tho it's
on
the right! When I selected "identify" for the monitor (1) and tv (2),
both
displayed the correct number and location. In case you can't tell....I
have
no idea what's wrong and what to do now LOL! Prior to this incident
everything was working fine. Display adapter = ATI X800XL. I hope the
solution isn't to complicated cause I get lost easily lol.
