Hi All:
In setting up a network for two computers, I learned that I should not
use an account with administration priviledges all the time for security
reasons. My Media Center 2005 computer came with one account labeled "OWNER"
with administrative power and a "guest" account that was not enabled. I put
a lengthy (STRONG) password on the "OWNER" account and wrote it down! I then
opened a new user account with limited priviledges and designated a different
lengthy (STRONG) password for that account. The first time I tried to log in
after that, both passwords were too long to type in the box allowed. The
last several charactors just do not enter. I tried using safe mode to see if
I could get into the computer but both accounts ask for a password and they
won't fit! First I selected ADMINISTRATOR and left it blank and pressed
ENTER, but it just asks if I forgot my password. I'm not sure why the
operating system let me select too many charactors but it sure leaves me in a
bad situation. I would appreciate any helpful info you might have.
Not sure if it really helps, maybe you wrote up the passwords wrong or
made a typo, but, anyway, you could try pressing ctrl-alt-del twice on
the login screen. That will give you the "proper" Log On to Windows
dialog box for entering user name and password, with a longer password
line, maybe that'll work for you.
