Boot into Safe Mode. Right click My Computer and select Properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery, Settings. In the System Startup section, click Edit. This opens BOOT.INI for editing. Locate the line that loads Media Center. Something like this:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Media Center Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

And modify it to add the /SOS switch at the end

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Media Center Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /SOS

This will eliminate the splash screen, so you can see what's actually happening. Post back with the results (usually you'll see the drivers loading, and then Windows will start). If the system hangs, describe what the last few lines on the screen are.

Tried that. Safe mode is OK, but when rebooting it locks up at the same point.

Boot the computer in Safe Mode, allow it to boot completely and then log in. Then shutdown and restart normally.

Hello all,

Trying to build a new MCE2005 machine with the following parts:

ASUS P5N32-SLI Dlx MB with intel 930 dual core CPU
2GB DDR2 ram
MSI 7800GTX video card
Hauppauge MCE 500 dual tuner

I install (inthis order) MCE (without the update rollup#2), the motherboard
drivers, the audio driver. the video driver, the Nvidia PureDVD decoder.
Everything is fine so far.

Now I install the roll-up. It installs fine, reboot, and the system hangs at
the Windows splash screen ( the one with the cylon eye type thing). It never
returns.

What am I missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Laszlo
