Todd,
I have Norton Internet Security 2006, I have opened all the ports I have
found in the various kb articles such as 911728 and followed the instructions
found on Symantecs website from top to bottom. I have also disabled all
aspects of it on many occasions.
I have opened ports on the Linksys router and taken it out of play by direct
connection of the PC and XBOX. Still the same thing...I get the "Invalid
Connection Data" Message on the XBOX 360 when I try to connect. What I find
interesting is everytime I boot up my computer I get a notification in the
tray in the lower right hand corner asking me if I would like to make a
connection to the new XBOX 360 it has found!!!
I have followed the steps in KB911739 many times...for a while I had to go
through the process in the article just to get the XBOX to not blow past the
8 digit code after getting the "Invalid Connection Data" Message. After I
deleted the entry under device table (one time only) in the registry it
stopped blowing by the 8 digit code but for each and everything I try I go
back through the steps in KB911739 to ensure nothing is left to chance.
I have a packet capture available that I attempted to email to you...I took
a guess at your email address so who knows if you will get the email.
Here is the info from the registry:

Couple questions:.
- Do you have any third-party firewall, intrusion detection, anti-virus,
privacy guard, or parental control software installed on your PC?
- Have you tried all of the steps outlined the following kb article?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911739
If you answer is no to the first question and yes to the second question,
please do the following:
1) Launch regedit (Start --> Run --> "regedit" <enter>)
2) Navigate to HKEY_Local_Machine/Software/Microsoft/MediaCenterPeripheral
3) Right click DeviceTable, select Export
4) In the File name field, type "DeviceTable.txt", including the quote marks
(i.e. DeviceTable.txt with double quotes before and after it) and save the
file to anyplace of your choosing
5) Open DeviceTable.txt in notepad, copy the contents, and paste them into a
newsgroup post

I have a Sony VAIO PC Runing XP MCE 2005 SP2 Roullup 2 hard wired to a
Linksys WRT55AG router, XBOX360 using Wireless A sitting 5 feet from the
router. Media Connect works fine but I want to use the XBOX as a Media
Center Extender. When I try to get them to to connect I get the dreaded
"Invalid Connection Data" message on the XBOX.
I have read all the threads and tried all the fixes in the threads and
thespent hours on call with 800-myxbox without any luck. Although, one of
whenfixes (the deletion of a registry entry) got me out of a perpetual loop
theI try to make the connection.
In another thread Microsoft was able to read a packet capture and tell
have aperson what they found and what could be done to fix the problem. I
capture, how do I get it read?
Thanks,
Bill
