Can you rip VHS tapes directly to Media Center?

Hi,

What's the best approach to copying movies from VHS tapes to use in Media
Center? I would like to convert some home movies to digital before the
tapes degrade.
I have tried capturing from the VCR's component video out to Movie Maker to
get them directly into .wmv format but the quality is less than desirable.
Is it possible (advisable) to connect the coax out to the tv tuner card and
somehow trick MC into thinking it is recording TV but really recording the
VCR's output? Or would a dv camcorder work best? (but take more than twice
the time due to 2 playbacks)

Thanks,
Derick
