Re: XP MCE and XBOX 360 Protected Content Issues

Todd,
Prior to doing the reinstall of MCE I tried one more thing that I had come
across as a possible solution. In MCE I found the MCX1 user account and
added it to the Administrator group on the local MCE system. Suddenly all
protected content on the MCE is playable on the MCX.. I am not sure if this
is a real solution, or some sort of band-aid hack that masks an underlying
problem.. but does this shed any new light on what the real problem may be?
Is there still a chance to fix this right without re-imaging?
Thanks

Rolling back to a clean Windows install sounds like a good thing to do (the.
behavior you report is highly irregular).
All protected TV content that works on Media Center should likewise play on
the Xbox 360.

Yes, the Windows Media Connect still shows DRM "Cannot play "reconnected
I went thru with the DRM reset steps, rebooted, disconnected and
the MCX, and now I have LOST some of the premium content that had workedbox
before..thru the MCX (HBO for one) I am getting ready to rebuild the MCE
from scratch to see if there is a problem with update/hotfix sequencing.I
am starting to wonder if watching protected content thru the MCX is evenSome
designed to work, or if the restriction is a "feature" of the design.
of the folks I talked to at XBOX support seemed to think that what I wasnot
trying to do shouldn't work anyway, but they suggested working with the XP
MCE support. Microsoft told me I had to call Dell support.. but I have
called Dell.. :) Somehow I just don't think they will be able to help..Media

It wouldn't hurt (though it will affect the licenses for any recorded
premium TV content). Steps are here:

Before you do that though, if you look at your Xbox 360 under Windows
rights.Connect, does it still say "Cannot play protected Windows Media files"?

I made the change to Windows Media Player as suggested, and ripped a
licensesfrom a CD. The MCE system told me that it had downloaded a license.content.
On the MCX trying to play the track results in
AUDIO ERROR
Unable to validate security of your Media Center Extender
As a result, the Extender will not play protected media content.
So I guess this means the issue is more widespread than just the TV
Should I try to reset or clear my DRM environment?. I have no
stillfor
purchased media that I need to backup or restore.
Thanks+

Also, do you have any non-TV protected content you could try
to(e.g.
music tracks purchased from Napster or MSN Music)
If not, please try the following to confirm whether this is specific
theTV
click OKor a general issue with protected content:
1) Open Windows Media Player and go to Tools --> Options
2) Select the Rip Music tab and check the "Copy protect music" box;
rights.3) Rip 1 track off of a CD; this track will be protected
4) Play the track you ripped in step 3 on your MCX; what happens?
Note: you may want to undo step 2 when you're done...

Sorry not quite Fixed!!
(update: Only Partially !!FIXED!!)
I tried the #2 suggestion in the following link :
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/04/25/583494.aspx
After installing the April 2006 Update Rollup I rebooted.. Then I
deinstalled Media Center Extender and Media Center Connect from
360MCE
through Control Panel. Then I rebooted MCE again. I went to the
setting,and
disconneted from Windows Media Center and Windows-based PC
computerand
them,redid
the 360 MCE installation including new key code. etc.Extender,
This procedure added a few premium channels that play now thru the
but not all of them do. There is still a problem with over half of
playssame
message about protected content not able to play thru the 360, but
Centerfind
on the MCE itself... Sorry for the false report!!

I don't have any problems locally with protected content on

with the 360 as an extender. All content aside from protected

maythis
could be
working (or in my case not) as designed..

Hello,
I am having problems with playing any Premium Content (TV)
the 360
Interface. It all plays fine on the XP MCE platform, but
daysunprotected
content will play thru the 360. I have spent about three
thistrying to
figure out if this is a problem that can be fixed, or if
andis a
new
feature/design. I have called XBOX and Windows XP support

basically
left with no solution. I have even called my Cable

a

I have Dell XPS 600, Happagauge 150MCE and all the latest
