Re: MCE Install issues

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I don't have another video card I can use but I will try to disable one of
the CPUs in the bios. I also am going to try removing one of the RAM chips
to see if this may be a cause. The memory is 2x512mb DDR2 dual channel match
set.
I have tried to update the bios by making a boot cd with Nero but there is
something funny about the boot cd that nero makes. I can not see the bios
update on the CD when booted from it. Even though I copied the bios update
files to the same CD.
Thanks

Some BIOS updates can be booted from CDs as well as from Floppys so you
might try that.
I agree that the BIOS update should not be required but as you are keenly
aware MCE apparently does not like something about the hardware
configuration.
Have you tried disabling one of the CPUs in the BIOS?
Do you have another graphics card you could try instead of the AIW card
since MCE 2005 does not recognize the tuner on the AIW card at installation
time?

I believe there is one update for the bios from Abit, but right now without
a
floppy drive, doing the update is not easy. I don't suspect the bios as
the
problem b/c I can install XP pro and XP pro 64 with no issues.

I thought that might be the case but I was not sure.
Have you checked for any recent BIOS updates for your MOBO?

The install of MCE 2005 never completes. It fails in the last step of
saving
settings on the install. I will check out the ATI instructions for any
hints
as it may relate to this, but from what I gather from your response MCE
is
already installed. I am not there yet.

Do you have any probkens before you install the AIW card?
To use the AIW card with MCE 2005 there are specific instructions on
the
ATI
web site on the steps to take with the installation of the ATI MMC
application and the ATI Decoder which is the only decoder which seems
to
work with an AIW card.

XP-64 is installed on a different partition on the same drive. This
no
way
impacts the installation.
I have since cleaned the drive completely and still get no where.
The
system is an Abit AL8 with a dual core 2.8ghz intel 64 bit, 1G
memory,
160GB
sata 3.0gb/s drive, and an ATI AIW 2006 PCI Express. The system
still
locks
up during install at the saving settings section. I have tested the
install
on another computer with no issues. I have done a clean install on
the
new
machine with XP pro with no issues. There seems to be a hardware
issue
with
the new machine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

You can use 64 bit processors with MCE 2005 but you cannot use

Just built a new system and having a bit of problem with the
install
of
MCE.
The install gets all the way to the "saving settings" after the
re-insertion
of disk 1 and dies. Just locks up with no way to get it out but
hard
reboot.
Any help would be appreciated. I have tried to install several
times
with
the same result.
In addition to check for hardware issues I have install XP64 on a
seperate
partition with no problems other than needing some drivers
installed.
Thanks,
