Re: MCE suddenly very slow, stuttering, CPU usage at 100%

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

You might want to check all your configuration options For ewxample if you
have Noeton searching all disk writes for viruss without exempting MCE that
would consume a lot of CPU power anytime you are watching or recording TV.

All,

I'm not a %100 on the cause and effect of this problems. However, I
uninstalled the entire Norton Internet security suite of tools and my
problems disappeared (mostly notably the random 100% CPU usage issues). I
ran a few days without an issue. I reinstalled the Norton suite and the
problem returned.

My new computer is fully up today with all Microsoft and Symantec software
and problem persists.

The only thing that hasn't changed: my anonyance with Microsoft and
Symantec. :-)

Douglas / all,

I am actually starting to hear similar "maxed CPU" problems from non-MCE
XP
users. I am suspious of the last round of updates. Keeping my fingers
crossed that an resolution appears soon.

Thanks for the response...

I'm assuming that the ehrec.exe is the program that records as you
watch, so you can stop and rewind. Why it would hog all available CPU
cycles is one question. My hard drive is only half full, but maybe
I'll defrag.

The lack of sound is the second frustrating question. If I watch
"live" at least I get sound, but it stops and starts continously. My
recordings for the last week have NO SOUND AT ALL!

I know there was just an XP update in the last week, but if it broke
MCE, then this board would be teeming with complaints.

So, I'm still hoping someone else will join in here... why would MCE
suddenly go so slow and hog the CPU?????
