Re: How to tell if my computer has USB 2.0 vs. 1.1?

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

To find out which version you have, open the Device Manager by
right-clicking My Computer and choosing Properties (or with Windows key +
Pause/Break on the keyboard). Click the Hardware tab and then click the
Device Manager. Scroll down until you locate the Universal Serial Bus
controllers and expand the list of controllers. If you have a USB 2.0
controller in your computer, the word Enhanced will be listed somewhere in
one of those names.

I am aware of how to get to the device manager, click on the + next to:
Universal Serial Bus controllers
and then I can see a list of USB controllers that I have installed.

However, I am not sure as to how I can find if my computer is physically
able to use USB 2.0 [and maybe I'm way off on this... I couldn't be less
familiar with USB details, so I don't know if a physical USB port that is
a
1.1 could be updated via software to a 2.0, or whether it's dependent on
the
physical USB port itself].

Any help/pointers/nudges in the right direction would be great.

Many thanks.

specs if needed for the question:
Windows XP Media Center Edition
Version 2002
SP 2
[Pentium 4, if that makes a difference]

It will have the word enhanced in it.
They cannot be upgraded.

What machine? Model and manufacturer
