Re: How to verify whether an account is admin or not?

OK Doug, but my name was rejected and it was the software that suggested NET
USER on its own. But in any case, why does it give me as a guest which is
erroneous.
And, can you throw any light on the Administrator being shown as "SUPPORT
etc". As I stated I am the only user: I built this computer from scratch and
personally installed XP PRO (OEM).
Thanks for your kind attention.

NET USER, without any additional information only shows a list of user
accounts on the machine. You must use a username from that list, as an
additional parameter to get more information on that specific user.

As for the NUSRMGR error, its a known issue, with no apparent fix.

When I go into cp/user accounts I get:
Internet Explorer Script error
! An error has occcurred in the script on this page.
Line: 4
Char: 1
Error: Access is denied.
Code: 0
URL: res://C:|WINDOWS|system32\nusrmgr.cpl/nusmgr.hta
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
Yes No.

Pressing Yes or No always brings up the next screen which shows me as
computer administrator (which is what I expect as I am the only user) and
shows guest account off.
It would seem the first error screen is meaningless and I have had this on
my other XP computers inc. my MCE.
Perhaps someone would comment.

However the point I find interesting is that when I try the NET USER
facility with my name, from the command prompt I get an error - states I
specified an unknown user name.
When I try NET USER on its own it states the Administrator is
SUPPORT_nnn..
and states that my name is a guest account which is a direct contradiction
of what is stated in cp/user accounts.

Help please.

Click Start, Run and enter CMD, press Enter. At the command prompt type

NET USER <USERNAME>

Where <USERNAME> is the actual name of the user account.

This is probably a simple question, but since it's something I never
knew,
I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me in letting me know what I can
do
to ensure one way or the other that a user ID is an administrator [and I
am
referring to whether there is something along the lines of whether it is
noted anywhere in the computer... not just by my testing it by trying to
see
if I can start/stop IIS, etc.

I'd really like to know if it's noted somewhere, please.

thanks a bunch.
