Re: Problems With HP Media Center DVD-Writer Model HP-840B

In terms of installing it, that should be relatively easy, depending on how
accessable HP made their cases. Just take the case off (both sides, if it's
a tower) (oooh, of course power off first!). The existing DVD should be
attached by two screws in each side, and on the back will have one power
cable and one data cable. Remove the cables and screws, slide out, slide the
new one in, reattach.

Once again thanks for the input. I should
be getting a new drive from HP. Hope I
can install it. The computer is an MP7360H
and the drive is HP-840B.

Maybe you should mention which model of HP, or which model DVD burner is
installed in yours. HP uses different brands and models of burners,
harddrives etc. in their various computers so one Media Center PC won't
neccessarily behave the same as another. I don't burn any DVDs or CDs
from within Media Center on mine but the burner has behaved nearly
flawlessly over the past 10 months when using Nero, RecordNow or WinDVD
Creator.

Another possibility arrises if you've added in 3rd party burning software
and caused compatibility issues.

Thanks for the replies.

I have had my HP for about six weeks and it has never
created a CD or DVD using Sonic, Nero, or the restore
program to backup D partition. I sent it back to HP telling
them the memory, hard drive, and DVD writer were bad.
The replaced the memory and the hard drive but not the
DVD. I have tried many brands of CD and DVD with
no success. Just wanted to know if it was just my HP
or not.
