Class Installer Fix?

I recently bought a computer with WinXP Media Center Edition. I am unable to
install my scanner, which worked perfectly well with my previous computer,
which had WinXP Home on it. I have been working my way through this with
scanner's tech support staff, and we almost had it done, but at the last
stage, I got a message saying: "The class installer has denied the request
to install or upgrade this device."
The scanner's tech support person says the "class installer" message
indicates a Microsoft error and that MS should be able to provide a patch to
fix it and that I should then be able to load the scanner software.
If any of the readers of this board have any knowledge of this issue, I
would appreciate your help. My Windows XP Media Center Editition is an OEM
product and I intend to go to the computer vendor's tech support on this
problem but I am not optimistic about the outcome and will look forward to
hearing from any and all.
