I am having basically the same kind of problem. I have Windows XP Media
Center home computer and also a lap top. We purchased a wireless router and
could not get it to pick up the wireless signal. After hours on the phone
with a technician I was told that you can not use a wireless router with
windows media center. do you know if this is true and if so can I use the
wireless router just for the laptop?
Help

I have cable modem connected on my dads pc, using wireless router which is
Netgear, MR814v2. And I tried to install wireless adapter which is Netgear

Can u give me help with that?

The router will not send a tv signal wirelessly to any computer.
The router doesn't even know what a tv signal is.

sorry to sound dumb here, but ill keep the modem, but he doesnt need it, i
can plug the coax cable into a TV card? And the ethernet into the NIC.
But
the wireless won't work? It has to be WIRED from my router to the nic, and
the coax WIRED to his tv card. Right??

modem,
I'm thinking. I can go buy one for me, I'll need one,

If you have a router, you don't need 2 modems (unless there is some
specific
reason you need to do this)
Instead, hook up the computers to run through the router (that will
ensure
that the internet is split over those two computers).
Just make sure your modem and your tv tuner both have a wired
connection to
the cable carrying your TV signal.
Note that that's merely one way to hook it up. There are other ways to
hook
it up to do what you want to do.

Do you mean get rid of the broadband modem altogether on the media
edition
pc
and plug the cable into the tv tuner card.
Because in that case I wouldn't need the 2nd broadband modem on the
media
center and the wireless router, since the cable is on a splitter?
Does this sound corret?
thanks for replying

The router does not transit tv signals at all.

Both. I was under the impression the wireless router would
transmit the
tv
signal from the broadband modem in my room, attached to the
wireless
router.

Hi ,
I have two pcs in the house. Both have a cable modem attached
to
them.
The pc in my room has the cable modem coming into a Linksys
Super G.
It
also
has a spliter that runs a coax to my son's room.
My son's room has the coax into the broadband modem and his
computer
has
the
Windows Media Center PC.
It all works fine this way, the TV on son's pc, etc.
I've installed a linksys compatible wirelss card into the media
center
PC
in
the sons room. Disconnected the broadband modem.
My problem is I cannot get the media edition pc to pick upa
signal
at
all.
the room is next to mine about 35 feet apart from router to
remote
pc.
No
errors at all.
I've checked all over MS tech net, media center site,
newsgroups....can't
even find out which wireless routers are compatible (HCL,
catalogs)
with
Media Center
Any help or links appreciated.
thanks
otis
