Dan, I figured out both problems: first, I needed to connect my pc monitor.
to the DVI port using the DVI-VGA adapter. Apparently the other VGA port is
for single monitor use. Once that was done, I could get my card to recognize
the tv on the S-Video port.
You can get the pc to use dual monitors in a couple of ways with either the
catalyst converter tool or the old-fashioned way by going to the Settings tab
on Display properties (right-click on a blank space on your desktop). Click
on the second monitor (grayed out) and check "Enable as my secondary monitor."
I had to fiddle with it as it sometimes wanted to make my tv the primary
monitor with all the desktop icons but experimenting was half the fun.
The Catalyst Converter has a Basic dual monitor enable function that gets
you in the ball park also.
When I finally connect my HDTV, I'll use the DVI port and put the pc on the
VGA port. I'll let you know how that goes....

I have a 825GM with the Radeon X300 card as you do. I can't help you, but i
hope you can help me. I Have the S-video hooked up from the card to my tv,
but I don't know what to do next. How do I display my comp monitor to my TV?
Where do I go to tell my comp I was a second monitor... any help would be
most appreciated, and of course, the simplier and more explained would be
even better.

I have a Gateway 820GM Media Center Edition 2005 with all the latest drivers
installed and I recently installed ATI X1600 Pro graphics card but I can't
get it to drive both my VGA monitor and the S-Video output to my tv. I
didn't have this problem with my old (and still standing-by for
re-installation) ATI 300X/500X graphics card.
When I try to enable the second output the primary monitor blinks like it's
doing something but then the second monitor icon greys out again. I
downloaded all of the latest Catalyst Converter upgrades - even the
Hydravision that I don't even have a clue about yet - and still I can't
enable the 2nd monitor function.
Just to be sure, I re-installed my old X300/X500 graphics card and reloaded
all the old drivers, yada, yada, yada, and the S-Video output came right
up....
I accidentally discovered I can drive the S-Video output when I called up
the MCE and started tweaking the ATI settings from the start-up screen: one
was for the monitor and the other was for the tv. Once I selected tv it
switched over to driving the S-Video output.
Is there a setting I'm not aware of? PLEASE!!! Don't tell me I spent $300
buck for this "One Monitor At A Time" feature!!
