You can also get to BOOT.INI by right clicking My Computer and selecting Properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery (Settings). In the System Startup section, click the Edit button. BOOT.INI will open in Notepad. You can then save a copy wherever you want.

Wow, that was a fast response! To your response...I have unhidden all the
files and still cannot find a boot.ini file :-( I've searched for hidden
fiels and folders but no luck there either. I have discovered how to do
recovery points - thanks. Have done the restore to out of box condition a
number of times and the system will run fine for a while but then it starts
acting up again. I am thinking more and more that it may be a hardware issue.

As for your hardware issues, you could have a failing hard disk and/or memory. Since your PC came with Media Center installed, you have the option of restoring to the out of box condition. For HP's, you should be able to press F10 at the BIOS boot screen. Consult your computer's manual to be sure, and to familiarize yourself with the options that are available. These are to re-install applications or to do a complete format and restore. The latter option will require that you backup anything you can't afford to lose.

I have an HP Pavilion M1160N that is just under 1 yr. old. (and no it is no
longer under warranty). It recently starting having issues. It sometimes
will blue screen; other times it gives me a non-boot disk error when booting
up, sometime it comes up with a choice to boot in safe mode, last known good
boot, etc. (However, whenit does THIS, it won't do any of the options - it
just goes into a boot loop and asks the same options over and over.)
Sometimes it just re-boots by itself.

I have scanned for virus'; worms, spyware - nothing found. I have re-imaged
the HD several times already (using system recovery) and it works for a short
time before having issues again. I have run a disk check on it through
windows and through PC doctor and neither find any errors. I have
uninstalled every aplication except widows, browsers, norton and email...but
still am having issues. I want to know how to set up recovery points and how
to create a boot disk but am not finding what I need. I have copied the
NTDETECT and NTLDR files to a CD but cannot locate a boot.ini file to put on
the CD - which I believe you need to create boot disk.

My questions then are...
1) Has anyone had this sort of issue? and if so - what might be the cause(s)?
2) How do I set recovery points?
3) Where is the boot.ini file or how do I create one for MCE (V5.1, build
2600 XPSP_SP2_gdr.050301-1519 Service Pack 2)?
ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
